Tata Motors has launched the facelifted Punch EV, which is priced at Rs 9.69 lakh, ex-showroom. However, one particular moment during the presentation also caught our attention. One of the slides shown in the program took a subtle dig at Maruti Suzuki.
Tata takes a dig at Maruti Suzuki: What happened?
Maruti Suzuki recently entered the EV segment with the Maruti e-Vitara and is promoting its electric journey with the tagline “India Goes Electric”. During Tata Motor’s presentation, a slide read, “India has already gone electric,” with special emphasis on the words “already has.” This was probably a direct response to Maruti’s campaign line.Tata also showcased two maps of India during the event, one showing 2023 and the other showing 2026. The new map shows a much wider coverage area, indicating that Tata EVs have already reached most areas of the country. The decline appears to underline Tata’s early presence and growing reach in India’s electric vehicle market.
Tata Motors is one of the early players in India’s EV sector and currently offers a portfolio that includes Tata Harrier EV, Nexon EV, Tiago EV, Tigor EV, Curve EV as well as Punch EV. The company is also working on expanding charging infrastructure through partnerships and network development.Maruti Suzuki has recently launched the e-Vitara at a starting price of Rs 10.99 lakh, ex-showroom, with additional charges for battery usage. While Maruti Suzuki continues to dominate the Indian market in terms of ICE vehicle sales, the picture is very different in the electric vehicle sector. Tata Motors has taken the lead in the EV segment, but competition is expected to intensify as more players enter the market. It remains to be seen what form this rivalry takes in the coming years.
