Your car’s suspension doesn’t deteriorate overnight. It warns you. The problem is that most of us ignore these until travel becomes inconvenient. On Indian roads, where potholes, speed breakers and broken patches are part of everyday driving, the suspension works harder than almost any other component. This also means it wears out sooner than many owners expect. The first sign that something is not right is a noticeable change in ride quality. If your car suddenly feels harsh over small bumps or starts crashing into potholes that it previously handled well, it’s worth paying attention to. A healthy suspension should absorb impacts, not transfer them directly to your spine.Excessive jumping is another obvious gift. After hitting a speed breaker or dip, your car should settle down quickly. If it continues to bounce two or three times, the dampers are likely out. This is especially common in older hatchbacks and compact SUVs that spend a lot of time fully loaded.

Strange noises should never be ignored. Creaking noises coming from the front or rear, especially at low speeds, often point to bad suspension, joints or link rods. In Indian conditions, rubber components deteriorate due to heat, dust and water. Once they break or harden, noise is usually the first symptom.Uneven tire wear is another indicator. If you notice that the inside or outside edges of your tires are wearing faster than the rest, there may be a problem with the suspension or alignment. Many drivers replace a tire without fixing the root cause, only to find the new set wear out just as quickly.A car that pulls to one side or feels unstable when braking is also a danger sign. Poor suspension can reduce tire contact with the road, affecting braking confidence and straight-line stability. On highways, this can be irritating. In the city, this can be downright dangerous.Excessive body roll when cornering is another sign. If your car leans more than usual during turns or feels like it is floating at high speeds, components such as anti-roll bars or dampers may be worn. It’s something you start to notice gradually, which is why many drivers take to it without realizing that something is wrong.
