MG Magester revealed: Five things to know before you book

MG Motor India finally unveiled the MG Magister SUV in the Indian market. The SUV was first unveiled at the 2025 India Mobility Expo and is essentially a significantly updated version of the Gloster. Although it retains the same core platform, the SUV gets a number of updates including changes to the design, features and off-road hardware to differentiate it. As a result, the Magister will sit above the Gloster in the line-up, targeting buyers wanting a more advanced and capable full-size SUV. In this article, let’s take a look at the top five things you need to know about the recently revealed MG Magster.

MG Magister: Engine and 4×4 details Talking about the engine, it has been introduced in a single 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel with 215 HP power, which comes with ZF 8-speed automatic transmission. The SUV gets a 4×4 system with all-terrain management software that MG calls M-Hub, which offers 10 selectable terrain and drive modes. It also gets a crawl mode called M-Crawl function and three differential locks. It also has a maximum water-wading capacity of up to 810 mm for an SUV. The SUV offers 10 off-road modes with automatic on-the-fly switching between 2H and 4H drive settings.

MG Magister: Design and colors Design-wise, it has a large matrix-style grille flanked by Falcon-inspired daytime running lights on either side and modern split headlamps at the front. The side profile highlights its premium stance with 19-inch alloy wheels, while at the rear there are new connected LED tail-lights and a sculpted tailgate marked with ‘Morris Garages’ and ‘Majester’ badging. Other highlights include faux twin exhaust tips, a skid plate, an integrated spoiler, a rear wiper with washer and more. Color options include monotone shades like Metal Black, Pearl White, Concrete Gray and Metal Ash.

MG Magister: Interior and Features The new Magister is offered in both six- and seven-seat layout options. The six-seater has individual captain seats in the second row, while the seven-seater has a conventional bench. The dashboard gets a completely redesigned design with piano-black trim and silver accents that give a modern feel. In terms of features, it gets a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment, 12.3-inch digital driver display, MG’s i-Smart 2.0 connected-car technology, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 12-speaker JBL sound system, electrically adjustable front seats that offer heating, cooling and multiple massage functions, three-zone automatic climate control with rear-row vents, dual wireless charging. Pads, a panoramic sunroof, pedals. shifters, 64-color ambient lighting, a gesture-operated tailgate and more.Safety equipment includes Level 2 ADAS features like adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, lane-departure warning with prevention, and blind-spot monitoring. Standard safety features also include electronic stability control, hill-hold and hill-descent control, ISOFIX mounts, a surround-view camera system and six airbags.MG Magister: Booking and launch date Interested customers can pre-book the Majester online or by visiting their nearest MG dealership from today by paying Rs 41,000. The company will announce prices and begin showroom previews and test drives from April 2026, with deliveries scheduled to begin in May 2026. MG Magister: Rivals, expected price and variants Once launched, the new Majester will rival the Toyota Fortuner Legender and is expected to be priced around Rs 45 lakh (ex-showroom). The SUV will be offered in three variants – Sharp 4×4, Savvy 4×2 and Savvy 4×4.
