Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India today launched the new and updated Honda NX500 with e-clutch technology. The bike is now priced at Rs 7.44 lakh (ex-showroom), interested customers can book the bike by visiting their nearest Honda Bigwing dealership across the country. Apart from the latest update, there are no changes to the motorcycle. It continues with the same design, bodywork and lighting setup, while the engine, hardware and feature set have also been carried forward without any modifications.
How does e-clutch work? Honda’s e-clutch system automatically controls clutch operation using electronic sensors and actuators, reducing the need for manual clutch input during starts, stops and gear shifts. The setup manages clutch engagement based on factors such as throttle input, engine speed and gear position. Riders can shift gears using the foot lever without manually operating the clutch, while the system also handles clutch engagement when moving from a standstill and disengages it during stops to prevent stalling. During gear changes, the clutch disengages briefly and automatically re-engages to ensure smooth shifts.Despite the added automation, the system retains the characteristics of a traditional manual motorcycle. Riders continue to have full control over gear selection, and the clutch lever remains engaged at all times, allowing manual override when required. Honda says this technology has been developed to reduce rider fatigue, especially in stop-and-go traffic situations where repeated clutch operations can be tiring. This system aims to improve comfort during long distance riding by reducing physical effort while maintaining the manual riding experience.
Powering the Honda NX500 is a 471cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine that produces 47 hp and 43 Nm of torque and comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The adventure tourer is built around a steel diamond frame and is equipped with Showa SFF-BP upside-down front forks with a preload-adjustable rear monoshock suspension setup. Braking duties are handled by dual front disc brakes and a single rear disc brake, supported by dual-channel ABS as standard. The NX500 runs on a 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheel setup, a combination intended to provide a balance between on-road comfort and mild off-road capability. On the feature front, the motorcycle gets a 5.0-inch full-colour TFT instrument console with Honda RoadSync connectivity, which enables functions like navigation, call alerts and music controls. Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) is also offered as standard with the all-LED lighting package. Honda is offering the NX500 in two color schemes – Matte Gunpowder Black Metallic and Pearl Horizon White.
