MG Magister launched in India at Rs 40.99 lakh: Features, specs explained

MG Motor India today finally launched the new MG Magister SUV in the Indian market. The 4×2 AT is priced at Rs 40.99 lakh and the 4×4 AT is priced at Rs 44.99 lakh (both prices ex-showroom). The Magister tops MG’s internal combustion engine-powered line-up as the brand’s flagship SUV offering and competes with the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian and the Isuzu MU-X.,Pre-booking is already going on. Interested customers can book the new Magister online or by visiting their nearest MG dealership by paying a token amount of Rs 41,000. The first 3,000 customers to pre-book the Magister will receive a complimentary package that will include five years of unlimited kilometer warranty, five years of roadside assistance and a five-year labour-free service contract.The SUV is offered with a single 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel with 215 hp power and 479 Nm of torque. It is paired with a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission. The SUV gets a 4×4 system with all-terrain management software, which MG calls M-Hub, which offers 10 selectable terrain and drive modes. It also gets a crawl mode called M-Crawl function and three differential locks. Its maximum water-wading capacity is up to 810 mm. Design-wise, it has a large matrix-style grille flanked by Falcon-inspired daytime running lights on either side and modern split headlamps at the front. The side profile highlights its premium stance with 19-inch alloy wheels, while at the rear there are new connected LED tail-lights and a sculpted tailgate marked with ‘Morris Garages’ and ‘Majester’ badging. Other highlights include faux twin exhaust tips, a skid plate, an integrated spoiler, a rear wiper with washer and more.Moving inside, the dashboard gets a completely redesigned design with piano-black trim and silver accents that give a modern feel. In terms of features, it gets a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment, 12.3-inch digital driver display, MG’s i-Smart 2.0 connected-car technology, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 12-speaker JBL sound system, electrically adjustable front seats that offer heating, cooling and multiple massage functions, three-zone automatic climate control with rear-row vents, dual wireless charging. Pads, a panoramic sunroof, pedals. shifters, 64-color ambient lighting, a gesture-operated tailgate and more.Safety equipment includes Level 2 ADAS features like adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, lane-departure warning with prevention, and blind-spot monitoring. Standard safety features also include electronic stability control, hill-hold and hill-descent control, ISOFIX mounts, a surround-view camera system and six airbags.
