Mercedes-Benz India is all set to launch the new 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class luxury sedan in the Indian market tomorrow i.e. on June 15, 2026. The updated Mercedes-Benz S-Class features extensive design revisions, technology upgrades and new features, with Mercedes-Benz saying that around 90 percent of the car has been reworked. The luxury sedan is also expected to get a petrol engine option at a later stage. However, the company has not yet confirmed the future of the diesel-powered version.In terms of design, the updated Mercedes-Benz S-Class has retained its overall design profile, although most of the visual modifications are focused on the front. The facelift introduces a larger grille with a chrome star-pattern insert and an illuminated surround, while the bonnet-mounted Mercedes emblem is now backlit. The redesigned headlamps are larger and feature triple three-pointed star-shaped daytime running lights.Mercedes-Benz has also equipped the sedan with its latest micro-LED digital light technology, which the company claims improves illumination by 40 percent. The system also includes an ultra-range high beam capable of illuminating up to 600 meters ahead. Changes on the sides are relatively limited and include newly designed alloy wheels, with optional 50-spoke units manufactured using a high pressure casting process. The updated S-Class also gets additional exterior color options, including several finishes from Mercedes-Benz’s manufacturer customization program.Luxury sedans now include more cameras, radar and ultrasonic sensors to support advanced driver assistance functions. At the rear, the main update comes in the form of slimmer LED tail-lamps, which incorporate three-pointed star lighting elements, as seen on the latest Mercedes-Benz E-Class.Moving inside, the updated S-Class gets a glossy black dashboard layout integrating three screens, referred to as SuperScreen by Mercedes-Benz. The setup includes a 12.3-inch driver display, a front passenger screen and a larger 14.4-inch central touchscreen that handles most of the vehicle functions. The sedan also adopts the latest MB OS digital architecture, integrating systems such as lighting, camera, suspension and powertrain control. The software supports cloud connectivity, AI-based functions, Google Maps navigation, and vehicle-to-everything technology. Rear passengers continue to get dual 13.1-inch entertainment screens, while the previous rear control tablet has been replaced by two smaller touch-based controllers. The cabin retains the leather upholstery and optional wood trim finish, while the climate vents are now integrated behind illuminated metal panels with electrically adjustable airflow controls.Most vehicle functions are operated via a touchscreen interface and capacitive shortcut controls. The car also features facial recognition via the dashboard-mounted camera, which additionally supports video calling and cabin monitoring. Rear seat comfort remains a major focus, with the long wheelbase version continuing to offer heating, ventilation, massage functions and an optional four-seat layout as well as seat recline of up to 43 degrees.Moving on to the powertrain, the S 450e with EQ Hybrid Technology trim gets a 3.0-litre turbo-petrol inline-six engine with an electric motor that produces a combined 435hp and 680Nm of torque. Power comes from a 22kWh battery pack, which Mercedes-Benz claims can provide an electric-only driving range of up to 100 km under ideal conditions.The S 450 trim gets a 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbocharged engine with a 48V mild-hybrid system that provides additional assistance during acceleration. This setup produces 404hp and 500Nm of torque. The diesel-powered Mercedes-Benz S 350d is equipped with a 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine that produces 330hp and 650Nm. Similar to the S 450, power is sent to all four wheels via Mercedes-Benz’s AWD setup. Adaptive air suspension remains standard, with active self-leveling offered as an option. Rear-axle steering is now standard at 4.5 degrees, while a 10-degree setup remains an option.It is not yet confirmed whether the facelifted Mercedes-Benz S-Class will be brought to India as a CBU import or will be locally assembled to keep the pricing competitive. The updated flagship sedan is expected to be priced at Rs 2 crore (ex-showroom), with the plug-in hybrid variant most likely to cost the most. Once introduced, the S-Class will rival the Audi A8 and BMW 7 Series in the Indian market
