There have been concerns for some time about the future of Jeep in India. Limited new product launches, slowly declining sales and a relatively small showroom network compared to rivals have contributed to speculation over whether Jeep could be next. Add to this Stellantis’ global restructuring and it’s easy to see why there are questions about the brand’s long-term plans in India. However, now the brand has officially revealed its future plans for India, signaling a long-term commitment.
Jeep reveals long-term India plans
The SUV brand has now reaffirmed its commitment to the Indian market by officially announcing its India-centric strategic plan Jeep 2.0, placing the country at the center of its Asia Pacific strategy. The plan will include a combination of product activations, deeper localisation, stronger aftersales support and India’s growing role as a global export hub.According to Jeep, India will continue to play a dual role in its global operations as a domestic market and as a major manufacturing, engineering and software base supporting other regions. The brand already manufactures vehicles at its Ranjangaon facility near Pune, which has an installed annual capacity of 1.6 lakh units. The plant currently supplies models such as the Compass, Meridian and Commander to international markets including Japan, Australia and New Zealand, with the line set to expand exports to markets in Africa and North America. However, in India, the brand has four models on sale: Compass, Meridian, Wrangler, and finally, the flagship Grand Cherokee.
A key pillar of Jeep 2.0 is localization. Jeep plans to increase the localization level in India to 90 percent from the current 65-70 percent. The move is expected to improve cost competitiveness and strengthen the supply chain. The company believes this will help it remain flexible in a market that is highly price-sensitive and increasingly competitive. On the product front, Jeep has confirmed that it plans to introduce new models for India, with the first model of its future lineup expected to arrive from 2027. Until then, the brand will continue to refresh its existing portfolio with special editions and updates to keep its current lineup relevant. Another key focus area is the ownership experience. Under its Confidence 7 programme, Jeep is expanding initiatives like Assured Buyback Programme, Pre-Maintenance Packages and Multi-Year Extended Warranty. Jeep currently operates in 70 cities across India, supported by over 85 sales and service touchpoints, and says it is evaluating further network expansion.
