Renault India has announced ARAI-certified fuel efficiency figures for the new Renault Duster, giving a clear picture of what buyers can expect from its turbo-petrol setup. The SUV is powered by a turbo TCe 160 engine, mated to a DCT automatic gearbox and returns a claimed mileage of 18.45 kmpl. The manual version paired with 6-speed transmission returns a mileage of 17.75 kmpl.These figures place the new Duster in a competitive position in the mid-size SUV segment, especially given its focus on performance. The 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine produces 163 hp and 280 Nm of torque, making it one of the more powerful options in its segment. Additionally, Renault is also introducing a smaller 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. This unit produces 100 hp and 160 Nm of torque and is available only with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
Looking to the future, the company has also confirmed plans to introduce a hybrid version. It will use a 1.4 kWh battery with a 1.8-litre petrol engine. The combined output of this E-Tech 160 setup is expected to be 160 hp and 172 Nm of torque. Renault says the 1.8-litre E-Tech Strong hybrid can run on electric power for up to 80% of city driving, which will help increase efficiency.
