The Center has approved a proposal to strengthen the electric vehicle infrastructure in Rajasthan, approving financial assistance of Rs 81.12 crore to set up new charging stations in major cities and highways in the state. As per PTI report, the scheme offered by Rajasthan Akshay Urja Nigam Limited aims to make EV use more practical and accessible for both urban commuters and long distance commuters.Under the approved project, a total of 591 EV charging stations will be installed at 262 locations. These will be spread across four smart cities of Rajasthan as well as on major national and state highways, creating a wider and more reliable charging network.

The proposal was presented under the Centre’s Prime Minister’s e-Drive scheme, which focuses on promoting green mobility and accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles. Officials believe the move will play a vital role in improving the state’s EV ecosystem and addressing one of the biggest concerns for buyers: charging availability.City-wise, Jaipur will have the highest number of charging stations at 112, followed by Ajmer at 49, Udaipur at 39 and Kota at 28. Additionally, 34 charging stations will be installed on highways to support intercity travel. All the installations will be done on land owned by government departments, ensuring speedy implementation of the project.Officials say expanding charging infrastructure will make long-distance EV travel more convenient, while also improving accessibility within cities. The initiative is expected to contribute to more people switching to electric vehicles, reducing dependence on fossil fuels and reducing carbon emissions in the region. Input from PTI.
