Volkswagen India is all set to launch the new Volkswagen Taigun facelift in the Indian market tomorrow i.e. on April 9, 2026. Production of the SUV has also begun at the company’s Pune plant, and pre-bookings are expected to begin soon after the launch. Deliveries will likely begin from May 2026 and will rival the Skoda Kushaq, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Victorias and other compact SUVs in the Indian market. In terms of design, the new Volkswagen Taigun takes clear inspiration from the Volkswagen Tiguan, giving it a more premium, scaled-down look. It features a thin piano black front grille flanked by sleek headlamps, as well as a connected LED light bar and an illuminated Volkswagen logo. The GT variant stands out even more with red highlights. Down below, the SUV gets a completely redesigned bumper with a wider lower grille, finished in Piano Black colour, along with a prominent skid plate.
The rear of the updated Volkswagen Taigun has not been officially revealed. However, based on the spy shots, the facelift is expected to feature updated taillamps, while the overall housing of the connected lighting setup looks similar to the existing model. The test vehicle seen sports camouflage between the taillamps, possibly hiding a thick full-width LED strip. There may also be an illuminated red Volkswagen badge hidden between the tail-lamps. The rear bumper has also been revised with a simpler design. The chrome detailing has been reduced, while the silver skid plate now has a smoother finish. The bumper reflectors have been repositioned vertically, replacing the horizontal layout used on the current model.
Moving towards the cabin, the overall layout is expected to remain largely unchanged with some minor modifications and feature additions. These may include a panoramic sunroof, rear-seat massage function, a fully digital instrument cluster and AI-based integration for the infotainment system. Other expected features include wireless Apple Car Play/Android Auto, wireless charger, six-speaker sound system with subwoofer and amplifier, automatic climate control, leatherette seats, electrically adjustable front seats with ventilation and more. Expected safety features include six airbags, ABS, EBD, traction control, cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, reverse camera, all-wheel disc brakes, rain sensing wipers, defogger, auto IRVM and more.As part of the update, like Skoda, Volkswagen is also expected to introduce a new 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission for the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, replacing the earlier 6-speed unit. The new gearbox is expected to improve fuel efficiency, as well as provide smoother shifts than the outgoing transmission and reduce fuel loss during acceleration and deceleration. The 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, turbo petrol produces 115 hp and 175 Nm of torque. The second engine is a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, turbo petrol with 150 hp and 250 Nm. Expected gearbox options include only a 7-speed DSG for the 1.5.
