Mercedes-Benz India recently launched the new 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class in the Indian market. For 2026, the luxury sedan has received several improvements aimed at keeping it ahead of the competition in the ultra-luxury segment. While the overall design remains unmistakably S-Class, the latest model brings subtle styling revisions, advanced technology features, improved connectivity and refinements that further enhance the ownership experience. In this article, let’s take a look at the top five things you need to know. powertrain The 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is offered with a single hybrid powertrain option. Notably, it is the first S-Class to be offered with a plug-in hybrid powertrain in India, combining a petrol engine with an electric motor for better efficiency and performance. It is powered by a 3.0-litre turbo-petrol inline-six cylinder engine that produces 435hp and 680Nm of torque, coupled with an electric motor. Power comes from a 22kWh battery pack, which Mercedes-Benz claims can provide an electric-only driving range of up to 115 kilometers in ideal conditions.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 9-speed automatic transmission, and it can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in just 5.7 seconds. The S 450e’s 22kWh battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in 20 minutes using a 60kW DC fast charger. The plug-in hybrid luxury sedan is claimed to deliver a fuel efficiency of 32.2kmpl on the WLTP test cycle.design In terms of design, the updated Mercedes-Benz S-Class retains its overall design profile, although most of the visual modifications are focused on the front. The facelift introduces a larger grille with a chrome star-pattern insert and an illuminated surround, while the bonnet-mounted Mercedes emblem is now backlit. The redesigned headlamps are larger and feature triple three-pointed star-shaped daytime running lights.

Mercedes-Benz has also equipped the sedan with its latest micro-LED digital light technology, which the company claims improves illumination by 40 percent. The system also includes an ultra-range high beam capable of illuminating up to 600 meters ahead. Changes on the side are relatively limited and include newly designed alloy wheels. Luxury sedans now include more cameras, radar and ultrasonic sensors to support advanced driver assistance functions. At the rear, the main update comes in the form of slimmer LED tail-lamps, which incorporate three-pointed star lighting elements, as seen on the latest Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

interior, features Moving inside, the updated S-Class gets a glossy black dashboard layout integrating three screens, referred to as SuperScreen by Mercedes-Benz. The setup includes a 12.3-inch driver display, a front passenger screen and a larger 14.4-inch central touchscreen that handles most of the vehicle functions. The sedan also adopts the latest MB OS digital architecture, integrating systems such as lighting, camera, suspension and powertrain control. The software supports cloud connectivity, AI-based functions, Google Maps navigation, and vehicle-to-everything technology.Rear passengers continue to get dual 13.1-inch entertainment screens, while the previous rear control tablet has been replaced by two smaller touch-based controllers. The cabin retains the leather upholstery and optional wood trim finish, while the climate vents are now integrated behind illuminated metal panels with electrically adjustable airflow controls. Most vehicle functions are operated via a touchscreen interface and capacitive shortcut controls. The car also features facial recognition via the dashboard-mounted camera, which additionally supports video calling and cabin monitoring. Rear seat comfort remains a major focus, with the long wheelbase version continuing to offer heating, ventilation, massage functions and an optional four-seat layout as well as seat recline of up to 43 degrees.price, variantsThe 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is offered in two main variants – the Launch Edition Exclusive Line priced at Rs 2.20 crore and the top-spec Manufacture Edition AMG Line priced at Rs 2.38 crore (both prices ex-showroom). Compared to its predecessor, which was priced at Rs 1.85 crore, the new S-Class commands a premium of Rs 35 lakh at the entry level.

booking, delivery Interested customers can book the new S-Class by visiting their nearest dealership, and deliveries are expected to begin around Diwali in the fourth quarter of 2026. This luxury sedan competes with the BMW 7 Series and Audi A8 L in the Indian market. While Mercedes-Benz India has not officially confirmed the assembly route, the new S 450e appears to be imported as a CBU, which also explains its substantial price tag compared to the existing S-Class.
