Tata Motors has recently launched the new Tata Tiago facelift in the Indian market. The new model features a heavily updated exterior, new interior, additional features, improved safety and more. The update is the second major revision for the hatchback since its introduction in India more than a decade ago. It continues to compete with rivals like Maruti Suzuki Swift, Celerio and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios.It also gets a new variant lineup: Smart, Pure, Pure+, Pure+ A, Creative and Creative+, with prices ranging from Rs 4.69 lakh to Rs 8.55 lakh (ex-showroom). It continues to be offered with a single 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, NA petrol engine producing 86 hp power. In CNG guise, the same engine produces 75.5 hp. Both are offered with 5-speed manual or AMT gearbox. In this article, let’s take a look at five advantages and disadvantages that you need to know before buying the new Tiago. Pros good looks The 2026 Tata Tiago benefits from an extensive exterior update that gives the hatchback a more contemporary look. Changes like the redesigned front fascia, updated lighting elements and revised rear styling help differentiate it from the existing model. Tata has also introduced new paint options including Pangong Pulse, Sobo Surge and Varanasi Vibrance, which provide more choices to buyers and help the Tiago stand apart from many rivals in the segment.competitive pricing Pricing is one of the key strengths of the Tiago. With a starting price of Rs 4.69 lakh, it beats the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Celerio and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios at the entry level. The higher-spec petrol-AMT variants are also positioned competitively between the equivalent versions of its two rivals. Tata has further strengthened the value proposition of Tiago by offering CNG in multiple trims, giving buyers a wider choice than the Celerio and Grand i10 Nios, which offer the fuel option in lesser variants. This allows customers to more easily choose the variant that matches their budget and feature requirements. The detailed variant-wise price is given below. modern interior layout Tiago offers a modern and functional cabin layout that remains competitive in its segment. The interior design is straightforward and user-friendly, while the overall quality contributes to a comfortable ownership experience. Practicality is supported by multiple storage areas throughout the cabin, and the 242-litre boot offers ample space for everyday luggage and weekend trip needs, enhancing the hatchback’s utility.full of features The 2026 Tiago offers a wide range of comfort, convenience and safety features for its segment. Highlights of the equipment include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, wireless smartphone connectivity, wireless charging, rear AC vents, cruise control, connected car technology and a cooled glovebox. Paddle shifters have also been added to the AMT variant. On the safety front, the hatchback comes with six airbags, electronic stability control, ABS with EBD, parking sensors, a 360-degree camera and ISOFIX child-seat mounts. Tata has also strengthened the bodyshell by incorporating recycled materials in certain parts of the cabin.AMT available with petrol and CNGThe Tiago is one of the few hatchbacks in its segment to offer automatic transmission with both petrol and CNG powertrains. Unlike many rivals that limit automatic options to petrol variants, Tata has expanded the AMT option across fuel options, giving buyers the convenience of an automatic gearbox with lower running costs associated with CNG. This combination enhances the appeal of Tiago, especially for urban users who spend a lot of time in traffic.Shortcoming panel gap The Tiago continues to offer a solidly built body structure, but some fit and finish concerns remain. Uneven panel spacing and minor inconsistencies in external alignment are noticeable in some areas, which affects the overall perception of quality. While these issues don’t diminish the hatchback’s structural strength, rivals offer more consistent panel fitment and finishing standards.Powertrain lacks punch and sophisticationThe Tiago’s 1.2-litre three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine is suitable for regular driving duties, but it doesn’t rank among the strong performers in the segment. Acceleration can feel controlled, especially at higher speeds and during overtaking. The engine also exhibits noticeable vibration and becomes audible under acceleration, with overall refinement and NVH levels not matching some of its competitors. No turbo-petrol engine on offerThe Tiago continues with its naturally aspirated engine range and does not get Tata’s 1.2-litre turbo-petrol unit. Since the engine is already offered in the Punch, its absence limits the options for buyers wanting strong performance. The inclusion of a turbo-petrol variant could improve the hatchback’s appeal among those looking for better drivability and highway performance. Some features have been removedDespite receiving new equipment, the 2026 Tiago has lost some features that were introduced in the previous model. Items such as the boot lamp, glovebox illumination, rear center armrest and driving modes are no longer available. The hatchback also lacks a tweeter and a full-size spare wheel. While these changes are unlikely to impact the purchasing decision of most customers, existing Tiago owners may notice the omission.AMT can be further refinedThe Tiago’s AMT offers the convenience of an automatic transmission, but its operation is not as smooth as some competing systems. Gear changes can feel noticeable, especially in urban driving conditions, while throttle response can sometimes be delayed. This affects overall handling capability and refinement compared to some rival automatic hatchbacks.
