The midsize SUV space is one of the highly competitive segments in the country and within it, hybrid technology is slowly becoming mainstream. While the Maruti Suzuki that was launched last year already offers a strong hybrid powertrain, the upcoming Renault Duster will also get the same. Here’s how these two engines compare on paper.
Maruti Suzuki Victoris vs Renault Duster: Strong hybrid powertrains compared
The Maruti Victoria uses a strong-hybrid layout built around a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with an electric motor and an e-CVT gearbox. Combined output is around 116 hp and 141 Nm. It also gets a 0.76 kWh battery pack and offers multiple drive modes like Eco, Normal and Power.
Renault has taken a different approach with the Duster. Its strong-hybrid system is based on a large 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, paired with two electric motors and a large 1.4 kWh battery. Power is sent to the wheels via a multi-mode automatic. This setup is expected to produce around 158-160 hp of combined power and around 172 Nm of torque. Renault also claims that the Duster can run in electric mode for up to 80 percent of city driving. The difference in output figures mainly comes down to engine size and battery capacity. The Duster’s larger engine and battery allow it to deliver strong performance. The Victoris, on the other hand, benefits from a more compact and mild hybrid system, which helps improve fuel economy.Stay connected to TOI Auto for latest updates on the automotive sector and follow us on our social media handles on Facebook, Instagram and Xpress.
