Mercedes-Benz India recently launched the new Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric in the Indian market, priced at Rs 55 lakh (ex-showroom). With this, the new CLA EV is now the most affordable Mercedes-Benz you can buy in the Indian market. Pre-booking for the EV is already underway; Interested customers can book online or visit their nearest dealership. Mercedes says it has already received over 400 bookings. Mercedes-Benz CLA vs BYD Ceal: Price, variantsThe new Mercedes-Benz CLA is available in three variants: CLA 200 Standard Range Progressive Line, which is priced at Rs 55 lakh, and CLA 250+ Long Range AMG Line, which is priced at Rs 59 lakh. There is also a CLA 250+ Long Range Launch Edition, which will be offered in limited numbers and is priced at Rs 64 lakh (all prices ex-showroom).The BYD Seal is also offered in three variants – Dynamic priced at Rs 41 lakh, Premium priced at Rs 45.7 lakh and Premium Performance priced at Rs 53.15 lakh (all prices ex-showroom). The CLA is priced higher overall, ranging from Rs 55 lakh to Rs 64 lakh. In comparison, the BYD Seal is priced between Rs 41 lakh and Rs 53.15 lakh, making it the more affordable option across all variants, while the CLA is positioned at a more premium level.
Mercedes-Benz CLA vs BYD Ceal: DimensionsComparing the dimensions next, the Cyl measures 4,800 mm in length, 1,875 mm in width and 1,460 mm in height and has a 2,920 mm wheelbase. The new Mercedes-Benz CLA measures 4,723 mm in length, 1,855 mm in width and 1,468 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,790 mm long. The BYD Sill is 77 mm longer, 20 mm wider and has a 130 mm longer wheelbase, while the Mercedes-Benz CLA is 8 mm longer.Mercedes-Benz CLA vs BYD SEAL: Battery, Range The CLA Electric gets two battery pack options – an 85kWh NMC battery pack paired with a rear-mounted electric motor, producing 272hp and 335Nm, and a claimed 0-100kph time of 6.7 seconds. It has a WLTP-claimed range of up to 792 km, and also gets a two-speed gearbox. Another option is a 58kWh battery with a WLTP-claimed range of up to 542 km. It is powered by a rear-mounted electric motor producing 224hp and 335Nm, with a claimed 0-100kph time of 7.5 seconds. The CLA EV supports up to 320kW fast charging through its 800V architecture, allowing a range top-up of 300 km in 10 minutes. Mercedes has also increased the ground clearance and modified the suspension for Indian conditions.Talking about the Sealed EV, it is offered with two battery pack options – a 61.4 kWh LFP blade battery paired with a single 204 hp electric motor that sends power to the rear wheels. The EV offers a claimed range of up to 510 km on a full charge. Another battery pack is a larger 82.5 kWh battery pack paired with a single electric motor that produces 313 hp of power. The motor sends power to the rear wheels and has a claimed range of 650 km on a full charge. The top-of-the-line AWD Performance variant is powered by an 82.5 kWh battery pack paired with dual motors that send power to all four wheels. The electric motors combined generate power of 530 hp and have a claimed range of up to 580 km on a full charge.Mercedes-Benz CLA vs BYD Ceal: FeaturesMoving inside, the CLA Electric has a minimalist, screen-centric cabin that prioritizes technology and usability. The highlight of the cabin is a dual-screen layout with a 10.25-inch digital driver display and a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
