Tata Motors is all set to launch the much-awaited Sierra EV in India tomorrow, June 30. The electric SUV will be launched in an all-new avatar and will sit between the Curve EV and Harrier EV in the company’s growing electric vehicle lineup. Ahead of its debut, Tata has released several teasers revealing key details about the SUV’s design, cabin, technology and performance.

Tata Sierra EV:everything we know so far

The biggest highlight comes from the latest teaser, which hints at the driving range of the Sierra EV. The digital instrument cluster shows a remaining range of 424 km with the battery charged up to 80 percent. Although Tata Motors is yet to announce official figures, the display suggests that the SUV can claim a range of over 500 km on a full charge. The cabin has also been detailed in the latest teaser. The Sierra EV features a modern dashboard layout and a two-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata EV logo. Another interesting addition is a dedicated Boost mode, which can be activated using a physical button on the center console. This feature is expected to temporarily unlock maximum power and torque. The SUV will also come with multiple terrain modes. In a teaser video filmed at the Tal Morieb sand dunes in Abu Dhabi, the driver display shows Sand Mode turned on, indicating that the Sierra EV has been developed to deal with different road conditions. Tata Motors has already confirmed that the Sierra EV will be offered with an all-wheel-drive option. The higher variants are expected to feature the company’s quad wheel drive dual-motor setup, which was first introduced on the Harrier EV, while the lower trims are likely to use a single electric motor driving one axle.

Tata Sierra EV: Cabin and features

Sierra EV is expected to be equipped with premium features. The lower variants may get a dual-screen dashboard layout, while the top-spec versions are likely to feature a triple-screen setup similar to the recently unveiled ICE Sierra. Other expected equipment includes a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, wireless phone charging, a powered tailgate, a 360-degree camera, connected car technology, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as a 12-speaker JBL audio system with Dolby Atmos support.

    Tata Sierra EV: Design

On the outside, the Sierra EV retains the distinctive silhouette like its ICE iteration but gets a number of EV-specific styling elements. These include a closed-off front fascia with body-coloured panels, connected LED DRLs, vertically stacked LED fog lamps, flush-fitting door handles, aerodynamic alloy wheels and a full-width LED light bar at the rear.

    Tata Sierra EV: Powertrain

The Sierra EV is likely to be offered with multiple battery pack options, including 55 kWh and 65 kWh units, while higher variants may also get a larger 75 kWh battery pack from the Harrier EV. Fast-charging capability is also expected to be part of the package, allowing the battery to be charged in significantly less time using a DC fast charger.Tata Motors is also expected to extend its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) program to the Sierra EV, giving customers the option to purchase the vehicle separately from the battery through a subscription-based ownership model, thereby reducing the initial purchase cost.Once launched, it will compete with rivals like Mahindra BE6, Hyundai Creta Electric and Maruti Suzuki E Vitara in India’s fast-growing electric SUV segment.
