Tata Motors is building excitement about the upcoming Sierra EV, which is set to make its India debut on June 30. In its latest teaser, the carmaker has showcased the electric SUV tackling huge sand dunes. The new teaser hints at the Sierra EV hitting Abu Dhabi’s famous Tel Morib dunes. Standing over 300 meters high with an inclination of approximately 50 degrees, Tel Moreb is considered one of the tallest sand dunes in the world. If the teaser is anything to go by, Tata is attempting to prove that the Sierra EV can combine everyday utility with genuine off-road capability. The teaser also offers another look at the production-spec Sierra EV. While the overall silhouette remains similar to the ICE version, the electric version gets several EV-specific styling updates. At the front, the traditional grille makes way for a body-coloured closed-off panel that extends across the nose. A connected LED DRL sits above the main headlamp units, while vertically stacked LED fog lamps are also seen. At the rear, the Sierra EV gets a full-width LED light bar, strong bumper cladding and a silver skid plate. One of the biggest highlights confirmed by the latest teaser is Tata’s Quad Wheel Drive (QWD) technology. The dual-motor AWD setup is expected to be reserved for the higher variants, while the lower trims are likely to get a single-motor configuration.Inside, the Sierra EV is expected to be positioned as one of the most premium electric offerings from Tata Motors. Lower variants may feature a dual-screen setup, while higher trims may get a triple-screen layout similar to the ICE-powered Sierra. Expected features include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, wireless phone charging, a powered tailgate, and a 360-degree camera. Tata may also offer connected car technology, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as a 12-speaker JBL audio system with Dolby Atmos support. The Sierra EV is expected to sit between the Curve EV and the Harrier EV in Tata’s electric vehicle portfolio. Multiple battery pack options are likely, including 55 kWh and 65 kWh units, while the top-end variant could borrow the larger 75 kWh battery pack from the Harrier EV. Tata may also extend its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) program to the Sierra EV, allowing customers to purchase the vehicle separately from the battery and opt for a subscription-based battery plan.Once launched, the Sierra EV will take on rivals like the Mahindra BE6, Hyundai Creta Electric and the Maruti Suzuki E Vitara.
