A bizarre motorcycle modification has gone viral on social media after a young rider was caught blowing a train-like horn on his Hero HF Deluxe. The sound of the horn is exactly like that of a railway engine approaching the station. In a clip going viral on social media, police officials have caught the rider and can be seen testing the horn himself. Many online users criticized the act, saying that such excessively loud horns could distract drivers, cause panic reactions and increase the risk of accidents in already congested urban traffic conditions. Some users also questioned how such modifications were visible despite traffic rules clearly banning pressure horns and train-style horns on civilian vehicles. The authorities reportedly caught the rider and have taken action against the owner. According to traffic rules, it is illegal to install extremely loud pressure horns on private vehicles as it can cause unnecessary panic and noise pollution. In India, the use of pressure horns, train horns and multi-tone horns on private vehicles is prohibited under the Central Motor Vehicles Rules (CMVR) and Motor Vehicles (Driving) Regulations, 2017. Rule 119 of the CMVR states that vehicles, except authorized emergency vehicles like ambulances, police vehicles and fire brigades, cannot use horns that produce harsh, shrill, loud or dangerous sounds. The rules specifically ban air horns, pressure horns and train-style horns because they can cause noise pollution and panic on public roads. Authorities across India have stepped up crackdowns on loud modified exhausts and pressure horns in recent years following rising public complaints over noise pollution.
